Dr. Goh as Minister of Interior and Defence and Minister of Finance(2nd time)

After Singapore gained independence on 9th August 1965, Dr Goh was then appointed as Minister for Interior and Defence. Dr Goh was the first man on this seat, and laid the foundation, that was very much needed. Dr. Goh made National Service compulsory for all the healthy males. The idea was rejected, but they had no choice. Dr Goh trained an army in just 2 short years. The SAF was then created.

Once again, on 17 August 1967, Dr Goh once again became Minister of Finance. His major contribution during this period was to reject the central bank in issuing currency. He stated that the government should not "Spend their way to prosperity"

Dr Goh. as Minister for Finance

Dr. Goh was Singapore's Former 2nd Deputy Prime Minister, also known as Singapore's economic architect. Dr Goh's contributions to Singapore was huge. When the PAP won the election in 1959, Dr Goh competed and won the Kreta Ayer sea (now Chinatown). On the other hand, he was appointed Minister of Finance and worked hand in hand with then Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew(now Minister Mentor).

During his reign as Minister of Finance. He came up with 2 ideas, both that are of major impacts to Singapore. In August 1961, the Economic Development Board was established. This was part of his idea to attract foreign multinational corporations to invest in Singapore. The following year, he initiated the Jurong Industrialization. Jurong was a swamp then, and was on the western end of the island. This thus allowed many factories to be built there so pollution would not affect the rest of the country. It can be seen, how the mind of such a great leader can think.
